New Commissions Circle

Support the creation and performance of new opera

Interested in new work? We firmly believe in investing in the future of opera, and Scottish Opera’s New Commissions Circle helps us support the creation and performance of new opera right here in Scotland.

The New Commissions Circle helps us fuel the creation of new work, providing opportunities for composers to have their work played and presented by Scotland’s national opera company. It also enables us to bring new opera to Scotland – like Breaking the Waves, which was composed by Missy Mazzoli and premiered in America in 2016, and had its European premiere in 2019 when Scottish Opera presented this award-winning production at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Scottish Opera takes great pride in investing in the future of our art form, supporting composers and promoting new work. We are very grateful to the members of the New Commissions Circle who help us to make this happen.
