Chris Alexander (Farmer MacNeep/Piggie)
Chris is beaming to be baaaack with Scottish Opera. Graduated in 2000 (when the world felt like it was in black and white).
Recent credits: Smile (Dundee Rep); Lost in Pantoland (Pace Theatre Company); Whirl Round the Gaiety (Gaiety Theatre); Control Room (BBC); Scot Squad (Comedy Unit).

Marie Claire Breen (Flossie the Sheep Dog/Duckie/Ukulele)
Described as “a soprano of rare fluency” (The Daily Mail), Ayrshire born soprano Marie Claire Breen is a dynamic and vibrant young artist with extensive experience on the operatic and concert platform. She is a former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist and appeared with them extensively throughout their 2010–2012 seasons.
Operatic roles include Adina, L'elisir d'amore; Musetta, La Boheme; Mercédes, Carmen; Vixen, The Cunning Little Vixen; Susanna, Le Nozze di Figaro; Valencienne, The Merry Widow; Součkova, Osud.
In addition to the established soprano repertoire, Marie Claire is equally at home in creating new works, particularly the contemporary operatic roles of Ghost, Hirda; The Bride, The Sloan’s Project and Miss Austin, The Elephant Angel, all by Gareth Williams.
Away from the operatic stage, Marie Claire is a passionate musical educator working as a Vocal Animateur with Opera North Education Department and is the Musical Director of The Three Valleys Gospel Choir.
Andrew Drummond Huggan (Cello/Laa-mie)
Scottish cellist Andrew Drummond Huggan gained a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Junior department, under the tutelage of Timothy Paxton in 2005. He continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland gaining his BMus (hons) with Rudi De Groote and baroque cello under Alison McGillivray.
Since leaving the RCS, Andrew has performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Scottish Philharmonic, Concert and Festival orchestras, British Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and in 2010/11 was awarded an apprenticeship with Scottish Opera, whom he now plays with on a regular basis.
Andrew’s passion for theatre has seen him tour internationally, performing with ensembles and as a soloist across Europe, USA, Canada, China and Oman. 2018 saw Andrew’s debut at the Lincoln Centre, New York.
In September 2019 Andrew collaborated with his twin brother Calum, an internationally acclaimed Marimba player performing for a live BBC broadcast.
Aside from his busy freelance career, Andrew holds the post of part-time lecturer at the RCS.
Allan Dunn (Revival Director)
Allan has over 30 years’ experience as a performer, writer, director, teacher and choreographer.
As writer and performer, he presented and wrote songs for What? Where? When? Why? for eight years with BBC Scotland.
He has toured with Scottish Opera both nationally and internationally and in 2017, presented Scottish Opera’s specially adapted production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro – the world’s first ever opera performance for people living with Dementia. He has written librettos for many of Scottish Opera’s primary school tours and Pop-up Opera tours, and regularly appears onstage presenting unwrapped performances of main company productions.
Allan also takes music and song into Edinburgh primary schools teaching ukulele and ‘Scots Song’.
He has also been Visiting Specialist in Drama and Dance at two of The City of Edinburgh’s most prestigious private schools: Daniel Stewarts & Melville College and Mary Erskine School.
Darren Gallacher (Percussion/Baa-mie)
Darren Gallacher has freelanced as an orchestral percussionist across the country, and has been fortunate to work with many orchestras, including the Hallé and Synfonia Cymru. He has also found success performing chamber music and as a soloist, having completed two consecutive tours of China where he was awarded First Prize at the China National Percussion Competition as a member of the RNCM Percussion Ensemble and Third Prize in the Solo Marimba Category. He was awarded a major award by the Harriet Cohen Memorial Music Awards and went on to win the RNCM’s Gold Medal Competition in 2019.
Gareth Williams (Composer/Musical Director)
Composer and songwriter Gareth Williams lives in Edinburgh, where he makes work that ranges from opera, theatre and songwriting to chamber and orchestral music.
His music is often site-specific and responsive, with performances happening in lighthouses, whisky distilleries, nuclear bunkers, and libraries. He creates award-winning work for companies such as Scottish Opera, Red Note Ensemble, National Theatre of Scotland, Ulster Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Tapestry Opera, Theatre Passe Muraille, Bridge Theatre, Hebrides Ensemble, and Noise Opera.
He is currently creating an album of ‘Songs From The Last Page’ to perform at Scottish Book Festivals as part of Event Scotland’s year of stories in 2022, and also working with people who have Long Covid to create brand new songs, as part of Breath Cycle at Scottish Opera.
