We are thrilled to announce the premiere of our first ever short film, The Narcissistic Fish, which we will launch on Thursday 18th June at 7pm, on our website. The 12-minute film is a collaboration between Scottish Opera’s Composer in Residence Samuel Bordoli, Scottish poet and novelist Jenni Fagan (The Panopticon) and our own in-house filmmaker, Antonia Bain.
It has become clear to us at Scottish Opera that, because of the continuing uncertainty around convening large gatherings due to Covid-19, it will simply not be possible for us to present our large-scale Autumn 2020 production.
Since we posted online teaching resources earlier this month from our popular primary schools production, Fever!, 14,000 people from LA to Beijing, Thurso to Brisbane have downloaded songs and movement routines to take part in the at-home opera. It will culminate in a performance on 22 June that will be streamed live on You Tube, led by the professional singers of Fever! We will also be encouraging those participating to share videos and photos, and will create a video montage from these submissions to share on our social media channels.
Whilst we may be unable at the moment to bring our productions to the stage, audiences can now view photos, programme articles and film footage from some of our most popular shows over the years in our new ‘Spotlight on…’ feature on our website.
Marian Colquhoun, our Head of Props, has established a group called SuperVISORS, consisting of ten volunteers who are working unpaid in their spare time, to make over 2000 disposable visors a week for the NHS.
