Our wardrobe department, led by Lorna Price, are working flat out, to make hundreds of sets of scrubs which will be distributed by the group For the Love of Scrubs to frontline NHS workers. GP practices, hospitals and other types of practice can request scrubs be sent directly to them at https://www.fortheloveofscrubs.scot/need-scrubs. Please share this link to those who need it.
Lorna has assembled a team of 18 Scottish Opera wardrobe members to undertake this operation. The majority are costumiers who are now working from their own homes, with a small team using our facilities at Edington St, Glasgow to prepare the fabric prior to sewing.
Lorna explains: “We are wearing gloves while we are cutting and overlocking the sets, they are then Ozoned in our cabinet so that the sets are sent out ‘safe’ to our own staff working from home. We are all using face masks and gloves while preparing and sewing the garments. The garments are then sent to the distribution hub organized by For The Love of Scrubs.”
Thanks to the kind financial donations sent to Scottish Opera, Lorna has purchased over 1000 metres of material from Fabric Bazaar in the Glasgow Barras and hopes to make 700 sets of scrubs.
A huge thank you from everyone at Scottish Opera to all our NHS Scotland workers.
