To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Sir Walter Scott we have partnered with San Carlo Opera in Naples to present a short documentary about Lucia di Lammermoor. The documentary explores the connection between Donizetti’s Opera and Sir Walter Scott’s novel on which it is based.
This exciting collaborative project has allowed us to work with San Carlo Opera to explore the work of Sir Walter Scott and its important teachings for modern day. This joins what will be a year long programme of events across the world as part of the Walter Scott 250 project, which includes a wide range of cultural, heritage, academic and community organisations.
Lucia di Lammermoor also inspires our Outreach and Education Department's Sweet Sounds in Wild places project. The Scottish Opera workshop series will explore loneliness, isolation and lack of empowerment, as well as the impact that landscape and environment can have on mental health and wellbeing.
In light of a particularly challenging year, the project aims to help those struggling, through the use of creative practices. Participants have the opportunity to work with a film-maker, composer, writer and photographer using music, creative writing, film and photography to provide a positive means of self-expression, and building their creative skills and confidence.
