D’Oyly Carte Music Hire Library
Now managed by Scottish Opera
Officially founded in 1879, D'Oyly Carte Opera Company brought together impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte, librettist WS Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan in one of the most successful and prolific theatrical collaborations of all time. From Trial by Jury and HMS Pinafore through to The Gondoliers and The Grand Duke, the company gave the premiere performances of all of Gilbert and Sullivan's major collaborations, in performances overseen and co-created with the composer and librettist.
Scottish Opera has worked with D’Oyly Carte Opera Company since 2013, co-producing productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Gondoliers, and Utopia, Limited, with Trial by Jury upcoming in 2025.
We are now delighted to work with D’Oyly Carte Opera Company to bring you the D’Oyly Carte Music Hire Library, managed by Scottish Opera, providing orchestral parts and other musical material to performing societies and organisations across Europe.
Material available for hire:
- Orchestral sets for all of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas
- Two-piano versions of Trial by Jury, HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe, The Mikado, The Yeomen of the Guard and The Gondoliers
- Excerpts and extra numbers from all of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas for performance in concerts and recital

Conditions of Hire
- All prices are for one month’s hire; longer periods are negotiable
- A deposit to the value of the first month’s hire is also payable
- Charges shown are minimum charges and include one month’s rehearsal. Prices do not include postage and packaging
